hi, we’re Jake and Danica and we’re Mormons :)

I thought you’d all enjoy a picture of how we spend our Sunday afternoons :)

ok, so as we said in the last post, we’re moving pretty soon (this week in fact); we went to the Remax place today and got our key to the new place

so anyway while we were there we were signing all this paperwork, and this guy came in. he was an older gentleman and he introduced himself. i kept thinking “i know this guy. where have i seen this guy before?” and he turned out to be our agent’s boss. we introduced ourselves; he asked if we were students. a short while later he excused himself; a little while after that he came in with a ‘special’ business card that our agent said she’d never seen. it was a “I’m a Mormon” card. :) “THE TEMPLE!” that’s where i’m 95% sure i’ve seen him before. i told Jake that while our agent lady was making copies of everything. anyway so that was our monday. we got keys and met a fellow Mormon, haha. Just let’s you know how everyone is always watching.

our sunday (i know i’m hopping around here but i wanted to tell the mormon story while i still remembered to) was filled with this apple deliciousness made by my hubby! (i made the leaves….and by made i mean cut out). he made that pie crust all by himself! and he weaved the dough all by himself also! isn’t he just a regular bobby crocker ;) 

the bittersweet taste of packing

As you both that read my blog know (thanks for hanging in there with us) we’ve been offered jobs—well, they’re internships—here at BYU-Hawaii. We’ll both be teaching English 101 come Fall Semester. However, because we will no longer be students of BYUH, we have to find somewhere new to live…and we have. :) We’ve found an apartment—a studio, to be more exact. We’ve already begun packing away our books. Our bookshelf looks quite empty and pathetic haha. Now you may be wondering why our packing involves Priority Mail boxes (if you’ve ever moved from Hawaii, you’re not wondering so you can just skip this part). Well, first of all, it’s cheaper than trying to move it all ourselves (just pack all your incredibly heavy books in that $14 flat-rate box and presto!) and second our new place is a studio. There’s plenty of stuff we simply won’t have room for. Our third (and most important) reason for sending our things away (well not away, we’re sending them to Jake’s dad’s house) is that after teaching here, we’ll be in Pendleton for about a month and then we leave to Korea. We can’t take everything; in fact we plan on not taking most things. When we find out how long we’ll be in Korea (basically whether we’ll be there during Christmas of 2012—if the world is still alive that is) and when we know that, I can begin begging to take our Christmas stockings….or if we won’t be there, I can send them off knowing it won’t matter. :)

anyway, that’s what we’ve been up to: working on syllabi and packing up :)

KOREA HERE WE COME!

yes sirs and ma'ams we have been accepted! i don't have much more information than that right now. We'll go in January cause that's the time we said we are available for.

steps in the journey

today we got e-mails about our interviews to see if we get accepted into the Intrax program (for those of you just joining us, Jake and I have applied--through Intrax--to teach English in Korea). This doesn't mean we're in, it just means they got our applications. We have our interviews next week (same day, different times). They collect our $50 application fee at the beginning of the interview (i know, $50 just to apply, but i guess that's the real world for you) and then we have our 30 minute interview and (this is the best part in my opinion) at the end of the interview they tell us yay or nay. while i'm a fairly patient person, i get stressed out and super anxious if i'm left waiting for too long :)

At this point we have no plan B. It's just Korea AND THEN grad school. i know you should always plan for the worse and hope for the best but i've discovered that every time i plan for the worse the worse comes through. hahaha.

for now i'm just going to work on my syllabus, practice my Spanish and enjoy having somewhere to live before we get booted out. :]

1. no we are not having a baby

now that that is out of the way here's our announcemnt....
we're staying in hawaii--for another semester.

For those of you who don't know we were planning on leaving on september 7th.
The English department has just asked Jake and I (yes, me too!) if we can stay on and teach English 101 and 201 (I get 101 and Jake gets 201) for Fall. !!!

I am incredibly nervous and incredibly stoked.

and really bummed because we JUST bought our tickets out....lol. mostly excited though. :)

a little up-date….

we’ve got some leaving and others coming…

we’re saying good-bye to my two-year-old slippers. they have served me faithfully, but they’re breaking so it’s time to say toot-a-loo.

these are the new ones. They’re not girl ones; my old ones were and i liked that about them but there’s nothing really i could do about that. there weren’t any girl ones. :( oh well. i’ll break these in. my feet are in for some blisters lol.

Jake is loving teaching his class and i am loving writing my blog and doing nothing (well i work, but that’s pretty much it)  i really love not having classes. i know i’ll have to go back eventually but i really enjoy not having class. it’s really quite refreshing :)
